Until relatively recently, smartphones has been perceived as devices that combined telephone, PDA and mini laptop features, primarily aimed at corporate users, however this situation has changed greatly; there is a boom in smartphones in our country. The trend is undeniable, especially among young people; 2 out of 3 teenagers have a mobile phone, in most cases a high-performance terminal.
This brings us to the following questions: how are they using their devices?; Are minors taking advantage of all the personal and professional features of their smartphones or just making a use for leisure purposes?; Having a Smartphone improves the safety habits of our teens or it´s just the opposite? Do the internet risks have a greater impact through these devices?
In order to answer these questions INTECO & Orange have carried out jointly a Study on the safe habits in the use of smartphones by Spanish children and adolescents.
The study involved the elaboration of an opinion poll based on 800 personal surveys among Spanish households; two interviews were conducted for each household; one to the minor and a second one to his mother, father or legal tutor.
By this means, the report aims to provide with detailed information about the safe habits and use of this mobile devices among young people and about how this uses and habits are perceived by their parents. Furthermore the study reveals the teenagers´ awareness of risks and the safety measures taken. The analysis is carried out from two points of view; the minor´s and the parent´s, as indispensable agents in their children´s education. At the same time this report allows to contrast the data on mobile device obtained in 2010.
This study´s results are completed by the contributions of 32 experts (professionals and institutions) belonging to different knowledge areas that have provided the research project with a multidisciplinary approach and a qualitative vision.
