File deletion and even formatting storage devices is not always sufficient to guarantee the irreversible deletion of stored information. Limiting oneself to these procedures jeopardises the confidentiality of data, which may affect the security of company’s systems and computer equipments, as well as users’ privacy. This article deals with this problem and offers recommendations for the secure erasure of data and the recycling of equipment.
