How are the new methods of attack through the Internet monitored? Honeypots analyse and monitor the methods of attack through the Internet in our computers. They consist of computers, or networks of computers, which manage to get information on attacks, letting attackers access a computer or system and leave traces of the means they use and of the actions they take to infect and control computers.
This technical article from the Observatory intends to explain what "honeypot" means, which ones exist and how they work. Nowadays they are essential tools to find out the methods employed by attackers and provide important information to the industry of security, showing the possible future evolution of Internet threats.
This article is part of the "Observatory Notebook" series. The corresponding documentation of this project is available in Spanish, English and French.
