The Information Society gives ICT the power to become a new driving force of development and progress, but, at the same time, this potential is a center of vulnerabilities that can be exploited in a hostile international environment.
This framework includes cyberterrorism, which is defined as an illegal attack against computers, networks and the information contained in them and is aimed at coercing a government or its population in order to achieve political or social goals.
The fear of a possible outbreak of cyberwarefare has recently been floating in the international atmosphere, but a series of Russian and Chinese attacks on western information networks, over the past year, have set off the alarm again.
A review of recent events and the current legislation for fighting computer crimes shows the constantly increasing need to strengthen the cooperation between countries, in order to achieve the effective protection of communication networks, citizens and their rights.
