The National Institute of Communication Technologies P.L.C. (INTECO) is a SOE promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade through the State Secretariat for Telecommunications and Information Society (SETSI). INTECO is located in León (Spain) and wholly owned by the public entity "red.es".
The Spanish Council of Ministers approved on 27th January 2006 the creation of INTECO with a twofold aim: first to promote the convergence of Spain with Europe in the Information Society field, through conducting innovative projects on the ICT sector, and second, to encourage and foster regional development, setting up in León a centre, which is intended to provide a global framework for action.
INTECO is an innovative development centre of public interest, aimed at adding value to the industry, by disseminating knowledge of ICT sector in Spain, according to the European guidelines.
Its main objective is to contribute to the development of the Information Society, through its own initiatives in the field of innovation, and to conduct projects with particular regard to ICT sector, based on three fundamental pillars: applied research, provision of services and specialized training for professionals.
Otherwise, INTECO is a technical service of the Spanish Central State Administration, for that reason Spanish Ministerial departments entrust INTECO many task in its field of competence. Such task must be efficiently undertaken by INTECO according to the "in house providing" organization model.
